Taking the Drug

Viagra should be taken only once per day and should not be taken in excess. There are conditions, however, when Viagra can be taken twice such as taking antiviral drugs.

It can be taken with or without food but be cautious of the food you take with Viagra for high-fat meals can prolong the time for the drug to take effect.

Take note that this drug is not for maintenance use and should only be used before a sexual intercourse.

The effect of Viagra when used in combination with other erectile dysfunction drugs still unproven. Therefore, it is contemporarily safe to use only one drug for male impotence.

Special Precautions

Viagra should not be taken by a person taking any nitrate drugs such as nitroglycerin patches, ointment and pills. Taking these drugs together may cause hypotension.

People who have had heart problems over the last few months such as heart attacks, irregular heart rhythms, and unstable angina, chances are taking Viagra would increase the risk for recurrence of these diseases and complications.

Hematologic disorders which may cause long lasting erection such as sickle-cell anemia, leukemia, and multiple myeloma should also be noted when using this drug for it may further prolong the erection time. Congenital structure abnormalities such as Peyronie’s Disease are also precautions because it would be painful for the person to have longer than usual erections.

A history of or a preexisting eye problem should also be noted since Viagra may cause visual disturbances.

Women are not suited for use of Viagra. There have been no studies proving the safety of using these drugs during pregnancy and lactation.

Drug Interactions

Calcium-channel blockers, alpha-blockers, antiulcerants and antacids may also cause unwanted reactions when taken with Viagra.
